Social Studies Book
Joining the Boston Tea Party- by Diane Stanley
"Liz, Lenny, and Grandma are back for another time-traveling adventure. With the Fourth of July fast approaching, there's only one thing for them to do...
JOIN THE BOSTON TEA PARTY!"
What would be the best way to teach a history lesson? What if you could go back in time and live through the history? In this book, the characters do just that! This book is from a series about a pair of twins who do many different things. What better way to teach your students a subject than to act like they are experiencing it themselves? This shows children the firsthand life of colonial America because that's what the kids in the book experience when they use Grandma's magic hat.
This would be an ideal book for us as future teachers because it makes learning about history fun and interesting. Your students won't even realize that this is a history lesson as they follow along on this adventure with the characters.
According to www.meriamwebster.com, social studies is defined as "a part of a school or college curriculum concerned with the study of social relationships and the functioning of society and usually made up of courses in history, government, economics, civics, sociology, geography, and anthropology". This book does teach about the study of social relationships and the functioning of society, so this would be a great choice for a social studies book.
Great post Makayla! I love the sounds of this book, because it seems that the students would be able to enjoy it and learn at the same time! I think it is important to choose books that are enjoyable for the students, especially when we are dealing with content that may be uninteresting to them!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of this book because it is enjoyable and has bright pictures, yet you are learning at the same time. I think students would be able to stay interested in a book like this.
